HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TEMPORARY CROWN
- The crown is made out of a plastic material and cemented with a temporary cement. The temporary cement is designed to be strong enough to keep the temporary crown in place for about 3 weeks and weak enough that it can easily be removed when it is time to cement the final crown.
- Avoid sticky foods that can pull the temporary crown off. Gum, taffy, gummy bears, caramels are examples of food to avoid.
- Avoid tough foods that can break the plastic temporary crown. Foods such as hard candy, raw carrots, a tough piece of meat or some breads that have a very firm texture are examples of foods to avoid.
- Clean around the tooth! Brush as usual. Floss between the teeth but rather than pull the floss back up from between the teeth, unwrap the floss from your finger and pull it sideways through the space so that you don't pull the temporary crown off. The gums may be sensitive when you brush of floss. If that is the case continue to brush and floss as best you can. You may also use warm salt water rinses.
- If the crown comes off call our office - 785-825-7557 to have it cemented on again. Petroleum jelly placed inside the crown then place back on the tooth can be used temporarily until you can come to the office. If you do this be sure to remove the temporary before sleeping as it can become dislodged during sleep.
- If the tooth is sensitive to cold use a sensitivity toothpaste. If the cold sensitivity is severe, sharp or does not go away in less that 30 seconds after you take the cold off the tooth call our office at 785-825-7557 to have the tooth checked. .
- If the tooth is sensitive to bite on call our office to have it checked and have the bite adjusted.
