WHAT KIND OF EXAM IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Every patient is unique. Below we have outlined several options to help you choose the right type of exam for you.

COMPREHENSIVE

PROBLEM FOCUSED

CONSULTATION

50 minute detailed exam.

10 minute exam, usually done with a routine cleaning appointment.

20 minute exam of a specific area of concern, usually a tooth that is hurting or broken or other oral pain or problem.

 

10 minute appointment to talk to Dr. Marietta about dental concerns. No exam is done.

Best for new patients, patients with several dental problems, patients that have not been examined for a few years.

 

Best for the patient who comes in regularly.

Best for the patient with one issue to resolve.

Best for the patient that wants general information before proceeding with actual dental treatment.

Includes: Soft tissue exam; occlusal exam; TMJ exam of the joint and muscles; full detailed periodontal (gum tissue) exam assessing mobility, bone level, gum attachment level, receding gums; tooth exam looking for decay, fractures, structural soundness, excessive wear, and other pathologies such as infection; medical history review; dental history review; treatment plan options and an in depth consultation with the patient.

 

Includes: Soft tissue exam, periodontal exam, tooth exam for decay and structural soundness, medical history review, and a brief consultation with the patient.

Includes: Testing to isolate the source of pain; periodontal exam of affected teeth; tooth exam for decay, structural soundness, and fractures in the problem area. Medical and dental history review, treatment options, and consultation .

Includes: Discussion with Dr. Marietta on a topic of the patients choice.

Suggested X-rays: Full mouth or panoramic

Suggested X-rays: 4 to 7 cavity detecting x-rays usually.

 

Suggested X-rays: Two x-rays, more if the condition warrants.

No x-rays.

Patients under 18 years old usually need just a periodic exam.

Patients under 18 will receive and occlusal exam (check for braces).

 

We also highly recommend the VELscope examination in addition to the above to aid in the early diagnosis of soft tissue abnormalities.
