HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR CROWN

  • The final crown is made from durable materials designed to last a number of years. The crown is cemented with a material that is also designed to last a number of years but initially requires some special care while it cures. The curing process takes 24 hours.
  • Avoid sticky foods that can pull on the crown. Gum, taffy, gummy bears, caramels are examples of food to avoid. After 24 hours return to you usual diet although avoiding the above foods is recommenced in order to reduce tooth decay and help prevent jaw joint (TMJ) problems.
  • Avoid tough foods that can stress the final cement. Foods such as hard candy, raw carrots, a tough piece of meat or some breads that have a very firm texture are examples of foods to avoid. After 24 hours return to your usual diet.
  • Clean around the tooth! Brush as usual but don't floss for 24 hours. After 24 hours floss the crown at least daily. No special precautions are needed. Floss around the crown just as you would any other tooth.
